Father’s Day is a holiday honoring fatherhood, family bonding, as well as the influence of fathers in society. In the Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 (Saint Joseph’s Day) since the Middle Ages. This celebration was brought to Latin America by the Spaniards and Portuguese, where March 19 is still commonly used as a holiday, although many countries in Europe and the Americas take the date after the United States, which is the third Sunday of June.
In 1909, Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd, who lived in Spokane, Washington, USA thought after attending the Mother’s Day at Church: ‘”Why not have a holiday similar to Mother’s Day to remember those father like my father?
When Mrs. Dodd was 13 years old, her mother unfortunately died in childbirth, leaving 6 children, after her father, Mr. William Smart became a widow and did not remarry. He raised his six children (including one infant) on behalf of his wife on a rural farm in eastern Washington state, United States. In 1909, Mr. Smart died. After Thanksgiving on Mother’s Day, Mrs. Dude shared with the pastor of Reimas church about her father’s love and effort in raising children, she hopes to have a special day to pay homage. To his father, And in memory of the great father of the whole world and has made a proposal to establish Father’s Day, hoping that there will be a holiday in the world in memory of gratitude to the father.
After hearing Mrs. Dodd’s story, Pastor Reimas was deeply moved by Mr. Smart’s spirit and supported her efforts to promote the establishment of Father’s Day. In the spring of 1910, she started Father’s Day, later receiving the support of various church organizations. She also wrote to express her thoughts and suggestions to the mayor and state government. With Dodd’s efforts, Mayor Spokane and Governor Washington agreed to recognize it, and Washington hosted the world’s first Father’s Day party on June 19, 1910.
In 1924, US President Calvin Coolidge endorsed Father’s Day as a national holiday.
In 1966, US President Lyndon B. Johnson announced that Mr. Smart’s birthday month would be June of that year as Father’s Day month in the United States.
In 1972, the President of the United States Nixon officially signed the document, marking the third Sunday of June every year as Father’s Day in the United States and has since become a permanent national celebration of the United States.
And now the whole world mostly follows the third Sunday of June. And this year 2021 is on a Sunday. In Vietnam, it now appears among young people and many families of all religions. Especially in thousands of parishes across the country after Mass on the 3rd Sunday of June, they respectfully wish their parishioners meaningful prayers. And all the parishioners will congratulate each other with best wishes.
VTOC also chooses this day to congratulate fathers with an intimate meal and small gifts such as paying tribute to fathers who work hard for life. Especially for single mothers, it is still possible to celebrate this day together. Because a single mother has to bear the responsibility of being both a mother and a father, much harder.
Through this, the entire leadership of VTOC would like to congratulate the “Fathers” in the Alliance of Innovative Science Business Clubs ISAI and the Agricultural Alliance Group, the Beautiful Life Group, the Start-Up Together Group. With partners, customers and relatives of employees. Always full of health, always a man full of lucidity, steady rowing between the storms of life. And always see the joy and harmony in life, no matter what the circumstances. And especially send best wishes and prayers to fathers who are disabled, mentally ill, poor, unhappy (Or have such children). Since all of you have suffered hundreds of thousands of ways your whole life, during the Corona Covid pandemic, which is still raging, your difficulties will be even harder.
